Toy Story 5 Teaser Sets Woody and Buzz Versus a Digital Device
It has been 30 years since the first Toy Story movie was released, launching Pixar as a major film company and introducing viewers to iconic figures like Woody (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.
In 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed this week, offering a brief look into the storyline but leaving fans curious how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Spooks the Toys
The preview reveals the young girl — who received the toy collection when he left for college — getting a latest plaything, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.
Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the toys appear to consider it as a danger coming to replace them, which it likely will.
Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
One thing the teaser doesn't touch on is what the sheriff is back with his friends in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (the actress), traveling with a fair and assisting giveaway items locate loving owners.
Surely, Pixar will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him appear in the familiar setting without warning is somewhat puzzling, though. It also raises questions whether his partner will have come back with Woody. And what about the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?
Continuity from the Previous Film
Fortunately, some elements are continuing from the earlier movie. The final act Woody did before setting off for his fresh path was pass his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (the voice actor), entrusting her as the leader of the toy domain. In the teaser shows the insignia attached to her shirt.
Hopefully she is remains the key figure among the group.
Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
