19 of Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been earned on hard surfaces

A comeback Daniil Medvedev claimed his maiden championship for over two years with success over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament championship match.

The Russian, a former number one, has experienced a challenging period, winning just one match at the major tournaments and experiencing a setback at the US Open.

The player's varied form on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his serving in particular - resulted in him dropping out of the world's top 10 and eventually separating with former mentor his previous coach.

Now training with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, he has consistently advanced in the last few weeks - peaking in a closely contested competitive win over challenger Moutet.

This marks his initial title after the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hardcourt after that period of that year.

The win also signifies Medvedev has achieved twenty-one victories at twenty-one various tournaments.

"It's the first time I have attended a competition with my children at once, so to win a championship is really nice," commented world number 14 the champion.

"This victory is in tribute of my second daughter my daughter, because the first title I won when my child Alisa was born was for her."

The tennis star, the former major winner, had lost his previous six title deciders, featuring in that event earlier this year.

Medvedev's defensive play style and frequent emotional displays on the playing surface had caused some to wonder if his skill to perform at the elite level was over.

But the player has made changes in the last few weeks, making an effort to approach the net and perform aggressively, supported by an better serving game.

The champion recovered from a deficit in the first set against the challenging Moutet, taking four of the concluding five exchanges to take the lead.

The pair traded service breaks in the following set before the challenger, striving for his initial tour title, gained dominance to create a final set.

The opponent rescued 4 initial chances in a competitive third set before the champion broke to 15 to secure the win.

Suitably, the winner clinched the win with a shot at the net, with his opponent unable to manage a shot after a lengthy match.
